History
According to amff.org fly fishing began in America in 1764. Upon arrival on the continent, it traveled West eventually reaching the Rockies and it's high streams which are ideal for fly fishing. Some uniquely American inventions include the split bamboo rod which was patented by an American in 1846. By the 1950s, fly fishing had reached a commercial range. Fishing game agencies in many states started stocking non native trout in streams to provide a market for the fly fisherman. Iconic gear such as the grey vest and fly fishing hat made their entry in this time.
Example of Fishing gear.
Fishing gear doesn't fluctuate much between male and female counterparts. Traditionally men have been the fly fishermen, but that has never been universally true and women are a fast growing proportion of the fly fishing community.
